Occupational Therapists (OTs) can help you regain and maintain your independence.

Our Occupational Therapists (OTs) are here to help you regain control.

Stay independent for longer.

Changes in medical conditions, hearing or vision and memory issues can make everyday tasks more challenging. We understand the importance of independence and want you to continue to feel safe and comfortable in your own home.

ECH’s qualified therapists are here to listen. We work with you to understand your concerns, assess your current physical abilities and determine what you want to achieve – creating a plan that is tailored to your needs.

Everyone’s goals are different.

Your success could look like:

  • Getting in and out of bed everyday.
  • Showering independently.
  • Cooking meals for yourself.
  • Enjoying your garden safely.
  • Using a mobility device to visit the local shops.
  • Navigating the steps in your home.
  • Hanging out the washing.

A tailored plan.

Every journey begins with a thorough assessment of your needs, challenges you’ve faced and your environment.

Our OT’s make recommendations that will help you meet your goals. From exercises that improve strength, coordination, and mobility to compensatory strategies or changes to the way you do things.

They may also recommend equipment or home modifications, from the installation of ramps and handrails to simple furniture rearrangements that can assist with your independence and comfort. All recommendations are different and will be unique to your situation. Plans are reviewed regularly and evolve based on your needs and abilities.

    Helping Don stay in his beachfront home.

    • Having lived in his scenic beachfront home for 31 years, Don wasn’t ready to leave when he started using a walker and looked to ECH to help him remain living confidently at home.

      With the help of an ECH Occupational Therapist Don has achieved his goal of being able to move around his home safely using his walker.

      Our Occupational Therapist helped Don make changes to his home that included installing handrails, decluttering walkways and relocating the bathroom vanity so that he could safely fit his walker.

    Wellness Centres

    • A welcoming and supportive space.

      ECH Occupational Therapy appointments are available in ECH Wellness Centres at College Grove, Henley Beach, Morphett Vale and Victor Harbor or they can visit you in your home.

    Accessing ECH Wellness Services.

    Whatever your age, ECH Wellness services are available to you on a self-funded basis. You do not need a referral from your doctor to access the services of an Occupational Therapist.

    If you are aged 65 years or over, you may qualify for a Home Care Package (HCP). Depending on your package, you may be able to use some of this funding to access ECH Wellness services, including Occupational Therapy.
