The week surrounding International Day of Older Persons (Sunday, 1 October 2023), is Active Ageing Week (2-6 October).

Within Australia, an increasing number of individuals are experiencing vibrant and productive lives well into their 80s and 90s. Research indicates that adopting a health-conscious lifestyle from an earlier age significantly enhances the likelihood of maintaining good health in later years. We know activities like, engaging in regular physical activity, maintaining a nutritious diet, fostering social connections, and prioritising your well-being can contribute to a fulfilling and active life. So, while socialising with friends and engaging in communal activities can invigorate your life, the activities co-ordinated for you during Active Ageing Week are a perfect opportunity to reconsider, try and pursue aspirations that may have been previously deferred ie perhaps because of time constraints earlier in life.

Active Ageing Week is the week that we celebrate and promote the benefits of a healthy lifestyle, and ECH encourage you “try something new”.
