Supporting older peoples’ health and wellbeing is all in a day’s work for Merle Simms, but her commitment and dedication to the job has seen her announced as a finalist for a major national award.

Merle, ECH’s Clinical Services Manager, has been named as one of just three ‘Leadership’ award finalists in the 2024 Aged & Community Care Providers Association (ACCPA) Excellence Awards.

The awards celebrate excellent across residential aged care, home and community care, retirement living and seniors housing.

Selected from a field of more than 460 nominations, Merle leads ECHs team of registered and enrolled nurses and works closely with our general practitioner and our home support team in the community.

When our nurses identify changes in our clients, they consult Merle who develops a plan of action to assist them and support their health and wellbeing.

Merle’s role also includes working with clients and their families to provide palliative care in their end-of-life phase.

Congratulations, Merle – we think you would be a very worth award winner!

The winner for the ‘Leadership’ award will be announced on Aged Care Employee Day next month (Wednesday 7 August).
